Valentine’s Day Doesn’t Have To Be Complicated

First of all, I would like to wish all of my BC followers a very happy Family Day!

With Valentine’s Day approaching in less than 24 hours, many people are likely stressing about what to do to celebrate.

It is important to remember that the day of “love” is exactly that — letting your loved ones know you love them.

Some suggestions include:

  • writing a heartfelt card
  • buying a tasty treat to share
  • opening a bottle of wine
  • grabbing take-out from your favourite restaurant
  • buying a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates
  • simply saying “I love you”
  • make your loved one their favourite meal
  • And hey, if you are the type that enjoys going all out with diamonds and fancy restaurants (really, who doesn’t like these things), then that is great! Do it!

My husband and I always like to do a little “trinket” gift of something little that the other person likes — a gift card to Starbucks, a lovely basket of soaps from Lush (my favourite) or something the other one needs (for example, my husband wanted a lawn chair for out at the lake this summer).

Another fun idea that I picked up from my mom and baby group is doing the “5 Love Languages” quiz from the famous book written by Gary Chapman. The quiz helps determine what your love language is — Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Physical Touch, Receiving Gifts or Quality Time. This is a great exercise to do as a couple — you get to spend time together, while at the same time learning something about yourself and your significant other.

Have fun everyone, and Happy Valentines’s Day!
