Shop Later and Save — Post-Holiday Shopping

By February 27, 2017No Comments

It’s hard when we see something we want when we are shopping and try to convince ourselves to wait until it goes on sale…

However, many of the post-holiday sales are worth the wait!

Whether it is Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Canada Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween or any of the other stereotypical “Hallmark Holidays”, if you can wait until after the holiday, you can get holiday items at substantially discounted prices!

For some people this works. For others is doesn’t. Many people don’t have the space to store holiday “stuff” until the following year, and for some items like candy, they come with an expiry date. Not to mention that when it comes to wrapping paper and Christmas cards, you can’t exactly wait until after the holiday to purchase these items for use in the same year. Another big factor in waiting is deciding if you are willing to pass up the opportunity and risk the items being gone after the holiday.

However, if you can wait — do!

A classic example for me were ice cream bars at Loblaws — candy cane flavour (yum!). Candy cane flavoured treats are a guilty pleasure I succumb to at Christmas… Well, a few weeks after Christmas they were discounted to $0.94 for a box of 6!!!!

My recent favourite purchase is my Valentine’s Day themed mug from Starbucks (stores still carry them)! I got it on sale for 50% off! I had my eye on it a few times prior to Valentine’s Day, and told myself that if it was still there after the holiday (and on sale), then I would purchase it! The other bonus is that it is one of those items that I can actually use all year round — another factor in determining if you want to wait to make the purchase.

Happy “shopping later and saving”!
