Good morning, and happy Saturday!
I refer to my previous post dated February 18, 2017 titled “A Life Lesson Learned on a Random Thursday — Part 1”. Well, here is Part 2!
As a quick de-brief of Part 1, I attended an event where the guest speaker, Archbishop Sartain, talked about not taking ourselves too seriously. Such a profound life lesson! (See Part 1 for the link to learn about Archbishop Sartain).
Within the same talk, Archbishop Sartain taught me yet another life lesson! Again, I reiterate that I am by no means going to quote him, or try to give you the word for word verbatim, but rather, the take away — the life lesson…
Today may be just an ordinary day to us, but to someone else, it may be the most important day of their lives.
The talk centered around remembering this in our professions, yet it really can apply to everything we do in life, everyday! Each of us goes to work day in and day out, likely doing things over and over again, doing what eventually becomes second nature. However, to the person we are assisting in carrying out the duties of our profession, this may be the most important day of their lives! Whether you are the priest marrying a couple, the doctor delivering a baby, the lawyer helping close the deal, the dentist fixing your smile, the tradesman building your home, the list goes on…
Remember this the next time you do a task at your job. Do it with an extra smile, or an extra oomph in your step. Remember, to you this is likely an ordinary day, part of your routine, but to the person on the other end, it could be the most important day of their life!
That being said, the same is also true… today could be the worst day of someone’s life. Be a little more kind.
Just a little reminder that I think we all could use — I know I could!
Happy Day — whatever that day may be for you today!
