What to do on a rainy day? Have you been to the Vancouver aquarium?
I should start by saying that as an animal activist, I have such a hard time with animal captivity (the obvious like zoos, Sea World and displays like the lions and tigers in Vegas (to name but a few)). However, the Vancouver Aquarium is a facility for aquatic conservation!
Although I have been a Vancouverite for 4 years now, I had yet to visit the aquarium. Seeing as my friend and her 10 month old were in town visiting this week, we thought this would be the perfect plan for a rainy day! It in fact was a perfect outing for two mamas! Although Jax is only 12 weeks old (today, actually), it was so stimulating for him! My friend’s 10 month old also thoroughly enjoyed it.
A couple things to note:
- the experience was truly a magical one. There is so much to see and take in – from bats, to a seahorse, to jellyfish and a dolphin. The jellyfish were my all time favourite (they also are for a great photo).
- the cost to enter for an adult is $36.00 (plus tax). If you have a Compass Pass and can present it to the cashier, you receive $2.00 off. Children under 3 years old are free.
- allow half a day (or more) to go through the Aquarium (depending on the age of your children). There is so much information to read on the various walls and plaques.
- sadly, the one Beluga whale recently passed away, and the other one is quite ill and has been removed from viewing.

Have fun!
