From the minute we wake-up, to the last second before we fall asleep, we have a perverbial task list of things we have to do, places we have to go, people we have to see, etc.
Throughout all of this, it’s easy to get frustrated or stressed. Whether by traffic, an interaction that didn’t go as planned, the famous “always running late”… the list is endless. I find myself time and time again heading down the path of these negative emotions, when in reality it is just as easy for me to choose happiness instead.
I saw this sign with this quote on it in a craft market in the Shuswap a few weekends ago: “Choose Happy.”. Its like the universe knew I needed it, and I stumbled across it at the most perfect time. After our campsite flooded taking many possessions with it, after my sister and her boyfriend were a day late to met us due to an accident on the highway that held them up and caused them to have to do a 10 hour detour, after I spilt coffee on my brand new white Converse…
Sounds easier said than done to always be “turned on” to being happy. True… it is. That’s why I am choosing to remind myself to “choose happy” when faced with a million different emotions, and I am hoping that this is a reminder to you to do the same.
It is truly a work-in-progress… not the “being” happy part, but the “choosing” to be happy in times when it’s hard to choose this way. As I “practice” this daily, I am realizing that by making this choice, I am in fact a much happier person. I say “practice” because it is a practice. It is something we do have to work on, and something that we do inevitably fail at every now and again. However, it is always worth a try that it does prove “happy” results.
So as I encourage myself, I also encourage you to choose happy!
Happy choosing happy!
